4 Emergency Ways to Extend Snow at Paris’ UN Climate Dec 1!

Hola Snowlovers!

I am alive and Vallarta is still standing, thanks to a miracle that you will see the Indigenous of the Americas helped guide.  It showed how cross-cultural collaboration and some amazing breakthroughs can defeat the strongest hurricane, or threat to our families’ lives, health and future happiness, including extending snow for our children!  Opinion: How Is Puerto Vallarta Still Standing? | eNewsChannels

Since I was given this gift of life, I wanted to pay it forward by especially helping make a difference at December 1’s UN Climate Summit at Paris. This time these HUGE solutions are in solidarity with the gifted Aborgines who contact us from the Australian Indigenous Alpine Sports Foundation.

This is miracle because in solidarity you will see how our two countries can impact the decisions that world leaders make at Paris, which have A LOT to do with the future of snowsports.  “Snow will be mainly gone by the end of this century (along with drinking water and food supply), unless there is an intervention,”  according to National Ski Areas Association’s NRDC study. What we each do NOW, before Dec 1st, can greatly extend snow beyond the end of this century.

Here are 4 quick critical ways you and your children can have a Voice at Paris, and together create a DOUBLE INTERVENTION!

  1. Remember the Colorado skier, 15 year old Xiuh (Shoe) Martinez, (my godson), and his Earthguardians in 100 countries? These youth just helped stop the Keystone Pipeline and drilling in the Arctic.  We bless them for those two HUGE leaps in extending U.S. Snow, through peaceful PROTESTS that also educate. Leaders listen to children!  http://ecowatch.com/2015/11/13/winning-climate-fight/

On Nov 30, Xiuh has a MILLION students in 100 countries STRIKING to send a message to ALL ADULTS and the world leaders in Paris to FINALLY do their homework and agree on binding measures to shift from fossil fuels to renewable energy to save OUR PLANET.   Students just need to walk out, or ideally going skiing and giving gratitude to Creator for the snow…   Good day for ski areas to give them discounted or even free skiing and tell the press to ask them  the future they want!   Climate Strike  Earth Guardians

If we adults don’t boldly do our homework too, snow and snowsports will be the first disappear, so we need to work together.  Please share this with your children so they can have the info to have a bigger voice in deciding their future.

  1. POWDER Magazine put together the best science about the end of snow if we do not mobilize action. http://www.powder.com/stories/news/powder-takes-the-road-to-paris/#jXOV2lcfhshDUYMp.99   They are working with over 100 Olympic heroes to Protect our Winters, which has had some real traction in Washington by getting leaders to finally understand that snow is a water source!  At Paris, Powder is moderating the I Am Pro Snow plenary panel at the COP21 World Climate Summit.   You can flex your ski muscles by singing this petition.
  2. Last week’s Huffpost article revealed another MAJOR Intervention opportunity. Tibet’s Plea: Fix The Roof Of The World Before It’s Too Late      1.3 billion Asians depend on water from their rapidly melting 46,000 glaciers including on Everest – one-third of the planet’s glaciers – the biggest snow refrigerator besides the poles!  The Dalai Lama is urgently calling on the Paris leaders to fix the roof of our only HOME, and agrees with Climate leaders that:

“Nomadic mobility is key to protecting the dry lands or Tibet and the world, as they are expert custodians of their lands and their traditional knowledge must be incorporated into climate mitigation and adaptation practices.”

China is forcing Tibetan nomads off their lands and into large scale settlements. To date, more than two million people have been moved.  There must be an immediate halt to the forceful removal of Tibetan nomads from their lands and those already resettled should be allowed to return to their pastures.

Tibetans must have a say on what happens on their lands and Tibet must be on the climate change agenda in Paris. The Tibetan plateau needs to be protected, not just for Tibetans, but for the environmental health and sustainability of the entire world.”

This is reinforced by the UN’s 192 countries agreeing in 2009, that Mother Earth is a living Being, and then in 2012, agreeing that the “key to regenerating Mother Earth is a combination of green technology and Ancient Wisdom of the Tribes.”  That is why UN Climate Ambassador Leo DiCaprio is producing two films on the Ancient Wisdom of the Iroquois.

The U.S. and Australia are now paying for the mistakes of our governments in the 1800s removing millions of our Native Americans and Aborigines from their ancestral mountains to reservations.  It created imbalances in the land that has caused the U.S. and Australia to be plagued with droughts, catastrophic storms, and continuous forest fires (the most in the world-UN), all resulting in our current premature melting of our glaciers and snows.

Yet, starting with Mammoth in the 50s, then Taos and Telluride in the 80s, ski areas have been doing the most to help heal and rebalance our lands by inviting the tribal youth back to ski in their ancestral mountains.  Since 1996, our Native American Olympic Team Foundation has helped enlighten 70 ski areas to share the joy of skiing and snowboarding and XC with over 10,000 tribal youth as part of a Skiers-Led Healing of America.  And this has inspired their Elders to save countless ski areas from droughts with their snowdances, started by Walt Disney asking the tribes to save the 1960 Squaw Valley Olympics (Powder Mag 2014), and Vail to ask the Utes to save them in 1963.

U.S. CUTBACKS CAUSING SUICIDES & KILLING OUR NATIVE PROGRAMS

Unfortunately, in the last two years, because of more and more government cutbacks to America’s poorest, our Native Ski programs have nearly dried up.  Like Telluride’s Ute Mt program, most tribes are in such dire shape that they couldn’t afford the gas for the 5 hour round trip to ski for less than the public school programs.  So our mountain chains are again becoming barren of deeply Nature-connected peoples like Tibet.

Additionally, the NY Times reported this year an unprecedented number of tribal youth suicides and 100 attempted suicides from hopelessness – from also 70% unemployment and no opportunities. Diane Sawyer’s ABC Special showed 20 family members living in one room in Pine Ridge, SD.

So it was such a blessing that Lynda Kimber (Aborigine), the wonderful secretary of the Australian Indigenous Alpine Sports Foundation (AIASF.org.au), contacted us in September to do exchanges between their Aborigines and our Native Americans “to help prevent the suicides and promote positive outcomes,” since the U.S., Australia and Canada found snowsports work best.  Plus to reconnect them with their sacred lands.

Canada is the only country making amends to heal their First Nations and prevent suicides from their boarding school abuses by funding their First Nations Olympians to host XC programs in many Arctic Villages for decades, and in the last 10 years thanks to the help of fellow Olympic racer Steve Podborski, snowboard programs in over 13 ski areas.  FNriders.com.

Therefore, here is how we can do the most to help rebalance the lands of our three Continents and slow down the melting of all our glaciers and snows:

In the absence of the support of our governments, We the People must act!  Therefore, our NAOTF and AIASF boards recommend that U.S. and Australian ski areas boldly follow Australia’s Thredbo, which has been inviting 20 Aborigine youth a year to enjoy a seasons’ pass (tickets, lessons and rentals pkg).  This is similar to what Washington’s Stevens Pass and Ski Sunlight areas near Aspen have been generously sharing for almost a decade.

SAVING THREE CONTINENTS DECADES OF SNOW

Inviting this level of tribal youth and Elders back to their ancestral mountains in almost 400 U.S. ski areas and 9 in Australia, would together serve a powerful INTERVENTION that could save our mutual continents decades of snow, while setting a powerful EXAMPLE to China.  Especially since these heart and land-healing ourtreaches also inspire the Elders to lead emergency snowdances that have saved ski areas billions in drought reduction over 55 years.  In addition, this could inspire the rest of the world to preserve their nearby earth-healing tribes since the UN says 2,000 go extinct each year to create even more harmony with Nature!  Therefore,

  1. Those going to Paris, please include strongly standing up for the Tibetans, as an Intervention solution, by urging China to learn from the mistakes of America and Australia.
  2. Those not going to Paris, please forward this to your ski area leaders to join with other U.S. and Australia ski areas in standing up for Tibet as a united voice, and example by using the Thredbo model. Ski areas and leaders in other countries are also invited to join us in Solidarity!

Those ski areas wanting to partner in this Tibetan-US-Australian DOUBLE INTERVENTION, please contact us immediately so the UN Sustainability Officer, who urged us to spread the “Snowdance Phenomena” story to communities around the world, can get our message to the right channels at Paris.  Plus we can feed this information to Powder Magazine.

Also fortunately, a board member of AIASF is in their Australian National Press Association, and can help get out the word there.  Also hopefully David Droga, (whose family runs Thredbo and pioneered inviting Aborigine to ski), since his Dorga5 just won Ad Agency of the Year in NYC.

4.Since you will see that Vallarta proved that prayers really work, please also give thanks to Creator in advance for the most wonderful outcome in Paris, better than you can imagine, and for you and our ski areas helping create this DOUBLE INTERVENTION just in time!

These 4 ways can inspire long term Snowblessings, my Native American advisors tell me, whose ceremonies and prayers helped end California’s seven year drought in 2004 and helped protect Vallarta from the fiercest hurricane ever in multi-cultural collaboration with higher powers.

On behalf the Australian Indigenous Alpine Sports Foundation and NAOTF, bless you for helping win this RACE TO SAVE SNOW for our Youth.

Much love,

PS  Many believe that our birthdays are a celebration of why we came here.  Thank you for helping me fulfill a main purpose on my birthday, Nov 29!

What a surprise as I thought Americans and Canadians lost completely their links with the ancient roots, knowledge and traditions of the original inhabitants, so thanks for sharing and all your efforts. --Eduardo de la Barrera, Latin American

“As co-founder and Vice Chair of the U.S. House of Representative’s Native American Caucus (60 members), congratulations on your Native American Millennial Ski events. It’s heartening to know that there are groups like yours across America that are working to better the lives of their Indian friends and neighbors."     --Patrick Kennedy, Member of Congress

"Congratulations on all the efforts of Native American Olympic Team Foundation. All of us at Steamboat Ski & Resort Corporation hope that the success of our "Future Ute Olympians Program" (taught by Billy's Olympic coaches) will stimulate other resorts and towns to host Native American youth for ski and snowboarding experiences. If we may be of further help in spreading the word, please let us know." --Chris Diamond, President, and Billy Kidd, Director of Skiing
